Slow Burning
Incense Sticks

If you love your home smelling wonderful and like incense sticks, try making your own. It is so simple and very cost effective!

You Will Need
Incense sticks
Fragrance Oils of choice
DPG (dipropylene glycol)

Use tall skinny bottles, this will help to hold the liquid whilst you are dipping 50mls
the sticks.

You can dip approximately 10 sticks at time, you will need room between the mouth of the bottle and the sticks. Make sure that the fibre from the sticks does not fall into the liquid if you scrape them whilst you are dipping.

Dip your sticks into the fragrance oil and let any excess drip back into the bottle. Then let your sticks air dry on grilling rack for a couple of hours, this will enable the sticks time to soak up all the excess oil. Wrap in cling film and leave overnight.

The following day, unwrap sticks and lay on absorbent paper, this will remove any excess oil that the sticks did not soak up.

The Sticks then need to be dipped in DPG (dipropylene glycol), this will slow down the burn of the sticks. Repeat the process but this time using the DPG. Let the excess DPG drain off, BUT DO NOT let it drip back into the DPG. This would allow the fragrance from the sticks to seep into the DPG.

Allow to set on a grilling rack for approximately 3-4 hours. Gently roll the sticks on absorbent paper to remove any DPG.

Wrap sticks in cling film or incense bags and allow them to fully set overnight before burning!
